Welsh Government launches consultation on EV charging

4 Nov 2024

The Welsh government has launched an open consultation on electric vehicle (EV) charging in both residential and non-residential buildings in Wales.

The Welsh Government is inviting public input on a new policy aimed at increasing electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure in both residential and non-residential buildings across Wales.

This open consultation focuses on proposed changes to Part S of the Building Regulations, which would require EV charge points in new buildings, buildings undergoing major renovations, and those with a significant change in use.

Under the draft amendments, every new residential building with dedicated parking will need a charge point installed if parking is within the site boundary. Additionally, any building being repurposed as a dwelling would also be required to have EV charging capability.

This initiative supports Wales’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure and is designed to facilitate the adoption of EVs by ensuring convenient access to charging facilities.
