Evotech Air Quality invited to National Air Quality Conference
Evotech’s air quality division exhibited recently at the Air Quality News National Conference, which brought together academics, policymakers, local authorities and green-sector leaders to discuss air quality issues and responses to the invisible health and environmental crisis.
The event attracted a host of influential speakers who highlighted the immediate need to act now to reduce air pollution both here in the UK and across the globe.
Baroness Finlay, Doctor, professor of palliative medicine and a Crossbench Member of the House of Lords said, “Indoor air pollution is estimated to cause 99,000 deaths annually across Europe, and the Covid-19 pandemic may have inadvertently contributed to increased exposure to indoor air pollution.” She is calling on housing policy to balance health concerns with affordability with sustainability as many homes do not have access to outside space.
Professor Stephen Holgate is a Professor of Immunopharmacology and a respiratory physician at the University of Southampton. He is the founder of the DH Committee on the Medical Effects of Air Pollutants, Chair of the Hazardous Substances Advisory Committee, President of the British Society of Allergy and is also a Special Advisor to the Royal College of Physicians on Air Quality. Sir Stephen, who was also the author of the landmark report that found that air pollution contributed to the death of Ella Kissi-Debrah, talked emotively about how the case proved that air pollution was responsible for her death, and said in his moving speech, “There is no safe level of air pollution, air pollution is toxic right down to zero.”
Felicity Aston MBE, a polar scientist, author and arctic explorer, spoke live from her home in Iceland, outlining the importance of the BIG North Pole expedition, where she will lead an all-female team skiing to the North Pole to collect data on black carbon and microplastic pollution.
The day was a great success all round and our team were able to speak to lots of interested people about the Airthings Wave Plus and View Plus indoor air quality sensors and the accompanying support services provided by Evotech Air Quality.
