Evotech Technical Services Partners with UWE Bristol to Bring Real-Time Air Quality Data into the Classroom

1 Oct 2025

Evotech Technical Services has strengthened its commitment to supporting the next generation of construction and environmental professionals by partnering with the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol). As part of a new collaboration, Evotech is supplying air quality sensors to enhance teaching and research across UWE’s built environment programmes.

The partnership will directly support students within the College of Arts, Technology & Environment (CATE) and, in particular, the School of Architecture & Environment, where UWE delivers its acclaimed MSc in Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Design, Construction and Operations. The postgraduate programme works closely with industry leaders to ensure students are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital construction landscape.

Air quality and building performance are becoming increasingly important within construction and facilities management. By donating indoor air quality sensors, Evotech is enabling students to integrate real-time environmental data into their studies, gaining first-hand experience of how Internet of Things (IoT) technology can connect with Building Information Modelling and Facilities Management (BIM-FM integration). This data will be used in Autodesk Tandem, a cutting-edge Digital Twin platform that allows students to visualise, monitor, and manage building performance as it happens.

The sensors will also open new opportunities for immersive learning. UWE Bristol’s state-of-the-art VR CAVE in the School of Engineering will allow students to explore live sensor data within fully interactive 3D BIM models, bringing the future of building operation and maintenance directly into the classroom.

While the immediate focus is on postgraduate students, the benefits of Evotech’s support are expected to extend across UWE’s wider built environment programmes, including undergraduate courses in Architecture and Environmental Engineering.

This collaboration between UWE Bristol and Evotech is bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world application, helping ensure students are prepared to meet the challenges of modern building design, operation, and sustainability.
